Specific Heat Consumption (kcal/kg clk)

Formula:

S H C = (Fuel flow rate (kg/hr) × Calorific Value (kcal/kg coal)) / Clinker Production Rate (kg/hr)

Where:

S H C : Specific Heat Consumption (kcal/kg clk)

Specific Thermal Loading (M kCal/hr/m2)

Formula:

Specific Thermal Loading = (Clinker TPD  Heat Consumption × 1000) / (3.14 × (D² / 4) × 24 × 1000000 )

Where:

 – Specific Thermal Loading : (M kCal/hr/m2)

 – Heat consumption : (kCal/kg)

 – D: Effective Diameter of the Kiln (m) (ID of kiln)

 – Specific thermal loading for precalciner kilns of modern design : 4.0 to 6.0 M kCal/hr/m2

Volumetric Loading (Cement Kiln)

Formula:

VL = Clinker TPD / (3.14 × (D² / 4) × Kiln Length)

Where:

  • VL = Volumetric Loading (TPD/m³)
  • Clinker TPD = Clinker production (tonnes per day)
  • D = Kiln internal diameter (m)
  • Kiln Length = Effective kiln length (m)

Explanation:

  • 3.14 × (D² / 4) × Kiln_Length → Kiln internal volume (m³)
  • VL → Clinker production per unit kiln volume 
  • Typical values
    Specific volumetric loading for preheater kilns : 1.6 – 2.2 tpd/m3
    Specific volumetric loading for precalciner kilns of modern design : 4.5 to 8.0 tpd/m3

Kiln Filling %age

Formula:

Kiln Filling %age = 3.2 × Kiln Capacity (TPD) / D^3 * Kiln Speed (rpm) × Kiln Slope (%)

Where:

D : Kiln effective diameter (m)
Typical values : 13 – 17%

Kiln feed retention time (min)

Formula:

Kiln feed retention time = (11.2 × L) / (r × D × s) 

Where:

L : Kiln Length (m)
r : Kiln Speed (rpm)
D : Effective Diameter (m)
s : Slope (Degrees)

Cooler Loading (TPD/m2)

Formula:

Cooler Loading = Clinker TPD / (Effective grate area (m2) of cooler)

Where:

Design : 42-44 TPD/m2
Max : 54 TPD/m2
